What is prayer?

Here is the transcription of the video

Praise the lord my brothers and sisters, Moses here from Christian Motivation. I do hope and believe that you are doing fine. What I want to do today is to start a service of just very short videos talking about the subject of prayer. And that’s because somebody was asking me about prayer, so I decided I would do some short videos about prayer. And I remember a while ago I had a discussion with some of my friends, and we were just talking about different aspects of prayer. So what I want to do in these short videos is just share with you a few things about prayer in hopes that you will go and dig deeper and try to find out more about prayer.

You see, as Christians, even though we have different dominations there are some things that we all believe and that we all know that are true. One of the things that we all believe is prayer. We all know that we need to pray, we all know how important prayer is. But the challenge is that maybe we don’t know how to go about prayer or we don’t know what prayer is, it’s because maybe the way people that we’ve been sitting under, the way people teaching us have confused us, so they misrepresented the gospel to us and we don’t really understand what prayer is.

So in this first video what I want to do is just share with you what prayer is. Prayer is simply, when you go and read the scriptures or you go and look at the Hebrew work for prayer or the Greek word for prayer, you realize that prayer is as simple as asking. That’s what I was able to find out when I looked at the dictionary, the bible dictionary, it still said the same thing; prayer is about asking, it’s about communicating with a deity. So here’s what prayer is: It’s asking; as simple as that. And then the other thing that you can say prayer is, is communicating; communicating with God. That’s really what prayer is, as simple as that. We don’t need to complicate it any further than that.

But let me just share with you a little deeper about something about prayer. You see, God desires to answer each of our prayers. Now, I know that you’ve probably had somebody somewhere or at some time say that prayer can either be answered in three ways, either yes, no, or wait. Now when you look in scripture you won’t see that written anywhere. So I suggest that people mix up their doctrine or they mix up their thinking with what the word says. The word does not say that prayer has three answers, it’s either a “yes”, or a “no”, or a “wait”, all that the word says is the promises of God are “yes” and “amen” through Jesus Christ. God desires to answer us when we pray.

Now what I want to share with you is the condition of having your prayer answered. What is the condition? Jesus said in John 15:7-8 “If you are biding me, and my words are biding you, you shall ask what you will and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified that he bear much fruit, so shall ye be my disciples.” So we see from the scripture that God is glorified when we bear fruit; in other words, when we get our prayers answered. But the condition is that God’s word, Jesus’s word, abides in us and we abide in the Lord Jesus Christ. In other words, it’s as simple as saying that we should pray in accordance to the will of God.

What is the will of God? His word. When we know what his word says, when we know what he has promised us, then we come to him with confidence knowing that he has promised us that which he wants to give to us, so we do not come as if we are begging or trying to push him and coerce him into doing certain things for us, but we come to him knowing that he has already promised and it is already a done deal through the Lord Jesus Christ. Why? Because the promises of god are “yes” and “amen” through the Lord Jesus Christ. They’re not “no”, they’re not “wait”, they’re “yes” and “amen”. And also in Mark 11:24 Jesus said “Therefore I say unto you what things so ever ye desire when ye pray, believe that ye receive them and ye shall have them.”

So the other thing that I want to tell you about prayer is that prayer is about asking, believing, and receiving. You ask, you believe, and then you juxtaposition yourself to receive. Why? Because when you pray according to the will of God, you realize and you understand that God already is willing to give that to you. He has already promised it, and he has already done it through the Lord Jesus Christ.

So you just come to him based on his word, you ask him what he has promised, you believe – because it is really useless for you to come to God asking him for something and yet believing that he can’t do that for you. So when we come to him, first and foremost we should make sure that we believe. And the best way to do that is first and foremost look for the scriptures or the promises that he has spoken about concerning your situation, whether it be healing, whether it be health, whether it be provision, your finances, your relationships.

Whatever the situation is you should first find out what God has said, then take time to meditate on what God has said concerning your situation, and when you meditate on that word faith will build up because the Bible says that faith comes by hearing the word of God. So as you read that word, as you meditate on it, as you speak it out, your faith builds up and when it builds up you come to God with all the confidence and say that “God, this is what you’ve promised, so I’m asking you, I’m believing in you, and I am ready to receive.” And when you do that God will answer your prayers.

So answers to prayer are not “yes”, “no”, and “wait”. They are “yes”, if you pray according to the will of God. So in brief, what is prayer? Prayer is asking, it’s believing, and receiving. Prayer is communicating with God. Now, in another video I’ll share with you more about the important of prayer, why we should pray, because it’s not just about asking. There is a something deeper and something better other than just asking for your daily food. But, in simplicity, prayer is asking, believing, and receiving. If you ask according to the will of God, your answer should be manifesting very soon.

I hope that blesses you, it’s Moses here at Christian Motivation saying stay blessed, keep the faith, and go out there and reign in life. God bless you, bye-bye.
